Open Water, Steelhead and Smelt…

Run off in rivers is making for some fast open water opportunities in the area. Safe to say smelts are in – judging from my last few meals after a Friday evening on the Little Gravel.  Jesse Lake and Thunderbay are also running good with smelts so have at it.

Nipigon Marina, lagoon and the river itself is fishable at a couple locations with more opening up almost daily.

Wolf, Jackpine, Cypress are all high and fast with some murkiness but clearing – 3-4 days of sunshine coming up.Most of the smaller creeks and streams are running full throttle with clarity ranging from clear to not clear at all – hit or miss. The steelhead aren’t really coming in in force yet – a little warmer water temp this week could change that.

I am updating and enhancing the Steelhead river map and resources locate at nipigon.com
