Emerald shiners are a small 2 to 6 inch bait-fish that is shiny/silver and is rich in fish oils. This makes it an ideal bait-fish as it is both visually and smell wise very target-able by the game-fish.

Used extensively south of Wawa as well as on the Lake of the woods the shiner is used for multiple species either live or frozen. A frozen shiner tipped on a jig is very productive even in tea stained waters.

You can catch any species of fish through the ice with emerald shiners including Whitefish, Perch, Pike, Trout and of course Walleye.

The smaller shiners for smaller fish like perch or finicky fish like Brook Trout and Splake. Medium shiners work well for Burbot, Pike, Whitefish, Trout and Walleye.

The larger ones for the larger fish like Lake Trout, Large Walleye and Pike.

The emerald shiner, with a bright silvery emerald colour, has been a no-fail bait when used for ice fishing and the one must-have for any angler.  And we now have them available in our area.
