We facilitate guides which are local individuals or companies which deal specifically with one or two types of guiding.  Some specialize in specific fish species, areas of expertise as well as pricing. We try to match a guide to you that we feel will give you the most enjoyable adventure available.

Fishing

Local guides for any type of fishing, for any species. Usually Boat related however some guides do inland walk to and hike to lakes.

$200 to $400/half day of fishing

Ice Fishing

Ice fishing guides provide all the equipment including tents, heaters, camp fires if desired and all you need to enjoy a good day ice fishing. From inland lakes to Lake Superior we provide comprehensive ice fishing experience.

$200 – $400 per day (6 Hours)

Wild edibles and Foraging

Summertime walks around Nipigon picking out and identifying edible and medicinal wild plants of the area. Berry picking trips occur during August for Blueberries, Serviceberry and others.

Wild edible mushrooms

Guided wild mushroom walk and talk around Nipigon. Identify over a dozen potential wild mushrooms and visit multiple habitats. Morel mushrooms in the spring and multiple species of edible mushrooms in late August and September.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Nipigon River Barbless?
No, Lake Nipigon only requires barbless hooks – either by pinching or buying special barbless hooks.

Is live Bait Banned ?
No, Live bait is permitted throughout the area with the exception of Lake Nipigon ice fishing where only artificial baits are allowed.

Can you camp anywhere?
If you are an Ontario resident you may camp anywhere on crown land (with time limitations) free of charge. Others will need to obtain a crown land camping permit to have displayed while camping on crown land.

What fisheries management unit is it?
Nipigon is located at the joining point of multiple fisheries management units. These include FMZ’s 6 (Nipigon and west),7 (Nipigon and east) ,9 (Lake Superior). The demarcation between 6 and 7 is highway 11 north to 801 north. The demarcation from 6 to 9 are the hydro lines at the mouth of the Nipigon River.

What can I catch?
Brook Trout, Lake Trout, Rainbow Trout, Northern Pike, Walleye, Jumbo Perch, Lake Whitefish, Lake Cisco, Coho Salmon, Chinook Salmon, Pink Salmon, Burbot and smallmouth bass are common to the area around Nipigon.

When is the best time to come ?
This depends on what species you are targeting. Spring time is usually a great multi-species time however salmon is more of a fall fish and Jumbo perch is an ice fishing opportunity. There are year round choices for nearly all species of fish in the area.
