The Cold weather has stabilized the slush and water situation on the ice in the region. With a warming trend on the weekend should make for some great and comfortable ice fishing and outdoor activities, just bring your shorts and T-shirts. There are still good pockets of slush, but mainly it has frozen back into the ice. Freezing of the slush is making inland lakes more inviting. Ice on Superior has in Nipigon Bay is medium to thick ice still with some growth after the recent cold spell. Bays End has been upgraded to thick ice in the small area at the tip of the Bay.
Jesse Lake Trout opener last weekend reported good ice overall and some great fishing.
The minimal snowfall for the past few weeks hasn’t added much to the snowpack and snow depths are around three feet in most locations.
Nipigon River Bait and Tackle in Nipigon and Experience North in Terrace Bay have ample minnow and tackle supplies for all you fishers.
Ski trails throughout the area are mostly groomed. Seasonable temperatures and some lovely sun should make for excellent ski and snowshoe conditions.
A number of our area trails are broken in and are becoming used much more. Again the seasonable weather will only make for an enjoyable snowshoe trip.
Weather forecasts show a warming trend starting this weekend.
Winds will be a light in the foreseeable future.
