Prolonged cool weather has firmed up slush conditions throughout the region. There are still good pockets of slush, but for the most part it has frozen back into the ice. Freezing of the slush is making inland lakes more inviting. Over the past week ice on Superior has stabilized with some growth after the recent cold spell. Nipigon bay is thick to medium ice with diminishing to no ice at Rossport/Terrace Bay.
The minimal snowfall for the past few weeks hasn’t added much to the snowpack and snow depths are around three feet in most locations. Warm weather and then refreezing on packed trails has made them more traversable however snowshoes are recommended.
Nipigon River Bait and Tackle in Nipigon and Experience North in Terrace Bay have ample minnow and tackle supplies for all yo fishers.
Ski trails throughout the area are groomed for the most part. Seasonable temperatures and some lovely sun should make for excellent ski conditions.
A number of our area trails are broken in and are becoming used much more. Again the seasonable weather will only make for an enjoyable snowshoe trip.
Weather forecasts show seasonable weather returning until mid-week and then warming again for next weekend with temperatures well above seasonal normals once again.
Winds will be a bit breezy over the next little while with no significant winds forecasted and a calming trend later in the week as temperatures rise.
